Nemesis has caught up with a middle-aged woman, Adediran, who
allegedly specialised in buying human skulls in Ibadan, the Oyo State
capital, after they have been exhumed from cemeteries.
She was among the five suspects arrested in connection with the
crime. They were paraded yesterday in Ibadan by the state Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina.
Also, paraded were other suspects for alleged armed robbery,
conspiracy and stealing, unlawful possession of firearms, rape, cable
vandalism, murder and cultism.
Katsina stated that the arrest of the human parts dealers followed a
petition he referred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), adding that
the operatives conducted a discreet investigation into the criminal
activities taking place at the Muslim Cemetery in Apete, Ibadan.
According to him, no fewer than six graves at the cemetery had been excavated by unknown criminals.
“Through painstaking, coordinated investigation and a clue left
behind by the perpetrators, the operatives arrested five suspects, who
confessed to the alleged crime. Among the suspects arrested is a female,
who confessed to the crime and disclosed that she usually bought a
human skull at the rate of N4,000,” he said.
Katsina gave the names of the other suspects nabbed for allegedly dealing in human parts as Abati, Tayo, Ramon and Mojeed.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Adediran said she usually made a
minimum profit of N11,000 on each human skull, adding that she sold each
of the skulls for at least N15,000.
Meanwhile, the state Police Commissioner, has assured members of the
public that criminals were in for a hard time in the state, stressing
that arrested criminals would not be spared as they will be made to face
the full wrath of the law as soon as investigation was concluded.
“Members of the public, who may have lost cars and motorcycles to the
men of under world are enjoined to come forward and claim their
vehicles or motorcycles among the recovered vehicles with proofs of
ownership.”
