Police Arrest Suspect in Attempted Sexual Assault Caught on Surveillance Video

Police in San Jose, California, arrested a man accused of trying to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl as she returned home from school.

Police arrested Mohammad Khaliqi on Friday and charged him with several counts of burglary, attempted sexual assault, and false imprisonment.

Authorities had been searching for Khaliqi, 31, since Tuesday when police say his attempted assault on the 13-year-old was caught on a home surveillance camera.

In the video, a man can be seen trailing the girl as she makes her way home. He approaches her on the front step of her house and then forces his way into the girl's home through the door.

President Jonathan has called on the incoming president, Muhammadu Buhari not to abandon his administration's projects. A businessman was run over by a tanker after policemen mounted an illegal checkpoint at the Mile 2 end of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday night met behind closed doors with the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting was held inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

That was the third time the two leaders would be meeting after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Buhari winner of the March 28 presidential election.

The Wednesday meeting, just like the first one they had on a public holiday (Good Friday), was described as “private” and so it was not opened to journalists.

The Presidency on Thursday morning broke its silence on the whereabouts of President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience.

The Media Assistant to Mrs. Jonathan, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja said the President’s wife is currently in Congo.

He said Mrs. Jonathan was in the country to join her colleagues from Africa for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of a non-governmental organisation, Congo Assistance Foundation, floated by the Congolese First Lady, Madam Antoinette Sassou-Nguesso.

Adewuyi however did not indicate when Mrs. Jonathan arrived Congo or when she is expected back in Nigeria.

Former African Footballer of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor has launched an astonishing attack on his family, in which the Tottenham Hotspur striker accuses them of turning their backs on him, renting out property he paid for without his knowledge. In the case of his brother Rotimi, Adebayor accused him stealing mobile telephones while at a football academy in France.

Two graduates of polytechnics, who were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for alleged kidnapping, have said they took oaths of allegiance before they could join their gang.

They added that the oath was administered by a herbalist from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects– Ifeanyi Chukwuleta, Kolawole Alani and Rasheed Adetunji– were members of the gang that allegedly kidnapped a businesswoman, Kudirat Adeboye, in the Ajah area of Lagos in April.

The commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada took to the street of Lekki area of Lagos state to protest the arrest of some of their members by the police from the Maroko division.

The policemen were said to be acting on the directive of the residents’ association to stop the operation of the okada riders in the highbrow area.

Award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s father who was abducted on Saturday on his way to Anambra has been freed by his abductors. Professor James Nwoye was freed last night around 8pm. A ransom of N50m was initially demanded, but we are not sure if any money was paid, but the respected elderly man has been freed.

Professor Nwoye was the first professor of statistics in Nigeria and was also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) before he retired.

Floyd Mayweather Agrees To A Rematch With Manny Pacquiao

According to a text between Floyd Mayweather and a US journalist, the undefeated boxer has agreed to a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

He apparently told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that he would be happy to wait until Manny has fully recovered from his upcoming shoulder surgery, which could take up to 12 months, and step into the ring with him again.

It was thought that Mayweather would only fight one or two more times before hanging up his gloves. Once in September and possibly one more early next year, with Amir Khan desperate to take on the American in 2016.

The message is reported to have simply stated:

"I will fight him in a year after his surgery."

Eight gunmen have ambushed a fuel station manager in the Morogbo area of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

They reportedly stole N6.8m, which was the proceeds from fuel sale for the day.

A local jury was organised after 80 sheep disappeared from villages in the Banos del Inca district of south Peru.

The furious locals put Luis Salvador Rodriguez, 20, on trial and found him guilty of stealing their sheep.After dragging him outside, locals tied him up, stripped off his top and took it in turns to whip him with a piece of birch as others formed a circle around him and watched. They then posted the photos online.
