How Abducted Orekoya Boys Became Friends with Kidnapper’s Children

PUNCH have interviewed the eldest amongst the abducted children of Mr. and Mrs. Leke Orekoya–Aderomola (11 months old), Adedamola (4 years old), Demola (6 years old) ─ who finally regained their freedom on Wednesday, having spent seven days in the hands of kidnappers, have yet to fully grasp the enormity of what they went through.

But as much as their innocent minds could comprehend, they have been able to describe life in captivity. Playfully, the oldest of the children, Demola answered questions PUNCH correspondent put to him.

Thirty-five-year-old Funmilayo Adeyemi, who abducted the three children, after she resumed work as a nanny at the couple’s Surulere home, has four children.

Those four children quickly turned to tools of her heinous business after the Orekoya boys were
brought home.

The Locales in South Africa have been attacking and looting the shops of foreigners who live amongt them. Since the outburst of the xenophobia, the indigenes have killed at least 5 persons and left so many others injured. The attack started about 2 weeks ago with the local vigilantes in South Africa looting and attacking shops owned by immigrants mainly from other parts of Africa

In Johannesburg, Malawian immigrant Samuel Idrssa described how his friend was stabbed and set on fire by a mob.

‘We wanted to rescue him but there were too many of them,’ he said. ‘It was shocking.’
‘We have all left our homes. Those affected are those of us who live in poor townships because we live with poor South Africans who do not have jobs.’

Violence flared days after Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini said in remarks that foreigners should 'take their bags and go'. And pictures below capture the horror of what's currently happening in the country.

Addressing parliament in Cape Town on Thursday, President Zuma had reiterated his condemnation of the violence, calling it a 'violation' of South Africa's values.

Thyroid nodules are a common problem that a clinician faces in his practice. The vast majority of these nodules are benign and unless progressing or causing symptoms, they are usually left alone and not operated upon. However, a small percentage (about 5%) of these nodules can be cancerous (malignant) and surgery becomes mandatory to remove the diseased gland. Quite often, the challenge facing the clinician is to differentiate between benign and cancerous nodules. When investigations such as ultrasound and needle aspiration do not resolve the issue, surgery is often recommended.

Surgery of the thyroid is done through an incision in the lower part of the neck. In most cases the incision heals well leaving behind a fine scar; but some people have a tendency to form thick and unsightly scars. Additionally, a neck scar may be psychologically upsetting to young patients. With the advent of the Robotic surgical systems, it is now possible to do thyroid surgery without opening the neck and without leaving a visible scar.

Robotics in cancer surgery – The way forward!

Life-saving surgical procedures performed by a robot sounds fascinating - and a wee bit scary! Due to developments in the West, this idea is no longer in the realms of science fiction, but a reality.

Though robotic surgeries have been practiced in the west at a few centers for the past decade, it is only in the last couple of years that their role is being established in cancer surgery. At present, a handful of centers in India are practicing this art and its scope and popularity can only be expected to rise as awareness increases.

The Robotic system is a revolutionary innovation devised for performing surgical procedures in otherwise difficult or impossible locations using specially designed robotic arms. The robotic arms are controlled by a computer console which the surgeon operates using hand and foot controls - somewhat like a video-game, but a thousand times more precise and sophisticated. The endo-wrist attached to these arms can move in different directions and at multiple angles (270 degrees) - something that the human wrist cannot and therefore can dissect, suture and divide tissues with a precision that even the most dexterous surgeon cannot.

Paul was found dead in their Oworonsoki, Lagos home on Sunday, April 12, 2015. His death was initially suspected to have been suicide because a container of a popular rat poison, called ‘Sniper’ was found beside him.

However, his late husband’s relation told the police that his wife might have poisoned him and made it look like suicide.

The Operatives of the Special-Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Osogbo area of Osun State has killed 3 suspected armed robbers who engaged them in a heavy shootout in the early hours of Friday after one of their robbery incidents went bad. It was reported by Saturday Tribune that the robbers died after sustaining bullet wounds during the shootout.

The suspects, who came in an unregistered Lexus car for a robbery operation, went to Oke Baale area of Osogbo, opposite Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), to attack the residents at about 2.00 a.m.

Apollo hospital seeks improved care for Nigerian patients

Dr. Narasimhan Subramanian, a senior consultant urology and andrology at the Apollo hospitals New Delhi, India, said this during a two day Continuing Medical Education and free medical screening programmeorganised by Apollo Hospital, New Delhi in partnership with Viewpoint hospital in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dr Subramanian said, “Before a patient seeks medical treatment in India, the patient should make all the needed enquiry to ascertain the level of competence of the hospital. That is why we are collaborating with hospitals in Nigeria to make sure they get quality service when they get to India.

“Apollo hospitals have twenty branches in India with over 1,000 competent specialists. We have been the 2^nd largest Kidney & Liver transplant unit last year in the world and our cost of treatment is one-fifth of other developed countries".

The Nigerian President and commander in cheif of the armed forces, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has given his reason for conceding defeat to President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari during the March 28th Presidential election. According to the president, He decided to concede defeat to avoid a collective tragedy. He said there has to be a nation before any personal ambition can be fulfilled and that for him, what comes first is the nation before ambition. Pres Jonathan said this when he received the new French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denis Guaer (pictured left) at the state house yesterday April 16.

The Cholera outbreak in Ebonyi state have so far killed nothing less than 20 people while most of the people are receiving treatment in various hospitals in the state . The state Director, Public Health and Disease Control, in the Ministry of Health, Dr Chris Achi, who made this known to newsmen in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, said seven local government areas namely Ohaukwu, Izzi, Ezza North, Ishielu, Ebonyi, Abakaliki and Ohaozara have recorded the highest number of cases.

Dr Achi said one student of the Ebonyi State University has died from the epidemic while 9 of them are in the hospital after contracting the disease.

The National Association of Air Traffic Controllers has suspended its one day old strike. The General Manager, Corporate Communications, of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Yakubu Dati, told AFP that the strike was a warning strike and that normal flights have commenced.

“The strike was a warning strike. Normal flights have now resumed,” he said

Meanwhile the striking air workers say they'll embark on another strike by April 20 if their demands of better pay and working conditions are not met.

The nanny who kidnapped the Orekoya boys has pleaded for forgiveness, saying she is the victim of bad marriage.
Yesterday, she revealed her husband, brother in law and wife made her carry out the kidnap.

She said she was arrested at a fan repairer's shop and her husband fled when he saw her being arrested. She said parents should be careful of the kind of men their daughters marry.

“Mummy Damola, don’t be offended at what I have done. This is what bad marriage did to me. I only delivered the message of my husband.”

Rescued immigrants

AFP)Italian police on Thursday said 12 African migrants had died after being thrown overboard by fellow passengers in the latest high-seas tragedy in the Mediterranean, as another 41 boat migrants were feared drowned in a separate incident.

Police in the Sicilian port of Palermo said they had arrested 15 Muslim migrants suspected of attacking Christian passengers after a religious row on a boat headed for Italy, which is struggling to cope with a huge spike in illegal migrants arriving on its shores.

Daily mail uk has reported that a Pole with convictions for violence was on his way to Britain from Calais when he snatched a schoolgirl in front of her mother before raping and murdering her, it emerged today.

Zbigniew Huminski, 38, has confessed to strangling his nine-year-old victim, identified by her first name of Chloe, yesterday afternoon in France ‘while drunk’.

She was stripped naked and sexually assaulted and after being forced into Huminski’s car and then driven to an isolated wood once used as a camp for illegal migrants bound for the UK.
