The Egyptian government has agreed to pay $3,280 as compensation to
the families of fans who died outside an Egyptian soccer stadium on Sunday.
The Health Ministry’s spokesman said on Tuesday
in Cairo that the final toll was 19 dead, but the public prosecutor’s
office said there were 22 fatalities, while Zamalek supporters group
said it has seen 28 dead till now.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Football federation, which postponed all
domestic matches indefinitely, said there would be another meeting after
the three days of mourning with all parties concerned to discuss
resuming football matches.
Mahmoud el-Shami, an Egyptian FA board member, said the league should resume as soon as possible.
El-Shami said the league cannot be postponed for too long because
four clubs would participate in African competitions and the Egypt
national team would start playing in the World Cup 2018 qualification
next July.
