Beware! The Sun website cloned

The website of The Sun, www.sunnewsonline.com, has been cloned by mischievous elements believed to be working for the Abia State governor, Theodore Orji. The cloned website is: www.sunnewsonline.co.

Investigation revealed that the cloned website has an IP number: 178.62.16.86, which is linked to one Ibeku Assembly website, an Ochendo Global website, one of Governor Orji’s propaganda online sites. In the cloned website, false articles are published and presented, as if they were published in The Sun original website. One of the posts in the cloned website is a letter of apology purportedly written by a former governor of the state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, to Governor Orji.

The letter, dated March 23, 2015 and addressed to the state governor was posted on the fictitious www. sunnewsonline.co, as against the authentic website of the newspaper, www.sunnews-online.com, in an apparent ploy to mislead members of the public.

The letter reads thus: “Following the long un-abated rancor and misunder-standing that has been pre-vailing and existing between us, I therefore wish to write this letter to express my sin-cere and unreserved apology to you to crave and pave way for peace and stability of Abia State.

“This my personal en-deavor is a consulted voy-age and step, expediently designed for an unbiased appreciation of a celebrat-ed exit from the dark past filled with rancor to tran-quility and a secured Abia State with new songs in this new dispensation, hoping that God in his infinite mer-cies shall be with us. With commitment, we gratefully adore the Almighty God who inspired and prompted us to this noble course of reconciliation.
“I want to emphatically state that we should bury the past and therefore, work towards a brighter future purged of unbridled rancor to make Abia State a better home for all of us.
“The significant growth and development the state government has made in Abia State has powerfully lifted the state from the clutches of backwardness and social economic amne-sia. As they say, it is easier to destroy than to build. We are to consolidate on the gains of what the government has achieved.

“I promised to support Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for presidency 2015, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for governor and I will sup-port this administration to the fullest as this state be-longs to all of us.
“May I request Your Ex-cellency that I be allowed to contest with other contes-tants in Abia North Senato-rial District.”

Reacting to the development, the media team of Kalu, in a disclaimer, expressed dismay and disgust at the purported letter of apology, saying: “Nothing can be as ludicrous as this charlatanistic deviancy.”

It added: “Only gullible Nigerians can be deceived by such imbecilic actions. It is a brazen fabrication that borders on stupidity, wickedness, mischief and viciousness. There is nothing on earth that will make Dr. Kalu apologise to his successor in office. This unmalleable position is known to all right-thinking members of the society, especially Abians.”

The disclaimer further reads: “We disclaim the purported publication, which ingeniously seeks to give the erroneous impression that Dr. Kalu has returned to his vomit by recanting and apologising to the worst governor in Nigeria, who, incidentally, he mistakenly foisted on Abians.”

“It is obvious that Dr. Kalu’s soaring popularity since he began his senatorial campaigns a fortnight ago has really rattled his detractors, who have now resorted to blatant blackmail of re-engineering websites and posting preposterous materials to taint the boundless and borderless profile of Dr. Kalu,
“The media team had foreseen this kind of thoughtless and reprehensible action after the unprecedented carnival-like rally in Aba on Thursday, which gloriously shut down the commercial city as multitudinous crowds thronged his electioneering train.”

The media team in its release called on discerning Nigerians, particularly Abi-ans, to disregard such devilish website manipulations and misrepresentations. It also alerted members of the public to more of such stupidities in the days ahead, and the utmost need for them to be wary of desperadoes.

A similar scenario had played out a few weeks ago when a spurious apology text message was sent to the Abia State governor with a cloned phone number purportedly by the former governor of the state over the humiliation he (T.A Orji) suffered in the hands of people of Aba during the burial of Most Rev. Ezeanya.

The purported text message of apology, which was sent from Orji Kalu’s cloned phone number reads thus: “I want to urge my numerous supporters and PDP members across Abia and Nigeria to discountenance any report in SUN insulting the Governor of Abia State. I have investigated and can confirm that the manage-ment of SUN was misled by somebody who felt I was still aggrieved with T.A Orji. While I will make sure that the culprits are penalised, I want to apologise to His Ex-cellency, Chief T.A. Orji.”

Kalu had, while reacting to the fake text message, denied sending any text message to the state governor who, he said he had not spoken with in the last five years.

“I have not spoken with T.A Orji in five years. He should face his troubles and carry his cross alone without involving me,” Kalu was quoted to have said.

The former governor wondered why he had to be linked with the humiliation of the governor in Aba, and why he had to offer an apology over what he knew nothing about.
