A 19-year-old shot in head for appearing in a Talent style singing contest

Mutlu Kaya had appeared on Sesi Cok Guzel, a Turkish programme in the style of Britain's Got Talent.

A teenager is fighting for her life after being shot, allegedly for appearing in a Britain's Got Talent style singing contest, it has been reported.

Mutlu Kaya was shot at her home in the early hours of yesterday morning and is now in a critical condition, Turkish media reports.

The shooting took place at 3.30am, after someone broke into her home in the Turkish city of Diyarbakır.
The 19-year-old is currently in an intensive care unit after reportedly being shot in the head through a window.

She was a contestant on the TV programme Sesi Cok Guzel but apparently received death threats as a result.

Source indicates that Kaya had attracted the attention of the famous Turkish singer Sibel Can, who told her family she would be a success.

Can flew to Diyarbakır in March to visit the teen at the school canteen where she worked, to make sure she joined her team at the competition, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

But only last month the Daily Posta said death threats had come from her father’s tribe in the city.

“When they heard that I was going to join the competition, they told me they would kill me. I am afraid,” Kaya was quoted as telling the show’s production team.
