Some yet-to-be identified gunmen on Wednesday shot and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Baba Ibrahim.
Ibrahim was killed in the Kastina/Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, where he had gone on a special assignment on cattle rustling.
The spokesman for the Benue State Police Command, Austin Ezeani, said the murdered ASP was on a special assignment from Abuja.
Ezeani said, “ASP Ibrahim was brought in from Abuja to lead a team of other officers to unravel the mystery surrounding cattle rustling in the state.
“The late police officer was with his men and were about to enter the main motor park in the town when some assailants, who were in a red Toyota car, drove into the area and started shooting sporadically.”
He explained that Ibrahim was hit and was taken to an undisclosed hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
He added that other cops with him were being treated for gunshot injuries.
According to Punchng, Ezeani said the command would deploy available resources at its disposal to trail the assailants no matter how long it would take.
He said, “It is regrettable that firearms are now in the hands of the criminals who will continue to kill innocent people at will.”
